In December 2023, a worker died on an Ipswich BMD site after showing signs of severe heat stress. It was a baking hot summer day and the site had no heat policy, no air-conditioning in the crib room and no cool drinking water for workers. This is what happens when Bad Mad Dangerous put productivity and profits ahead of worker safety.

On a Jmac (a subsidiary of BMD) job site in Queensland CFMEU organisers found utterly unacceptable workplace conditions.

They found:

  • no first aid room

  • no eyewash facilities

  • no crib room

  • no drinking water

  • no chemical storage

The Hall Road upgrade site in Victoria is just another typical BMD site. little to no site induction, out-of-date risk assessments, rusty and cracked welding and noncompliant machinery.

All of these issues are potentially deadly to workers yet BMD seems to think that these issues don’t matter

It seems like BMD jobs across the country all have similar problems, no site induction, no permits and out-of-date safety checks.

It isn’t just one BMD with a problem it’s site all across the county putting workers lives at risk.

More chaos from The Hall Road upgrade site in Victoria, with even more potentially deadly incidents such as: - Traffic Management Issue

- No Barriers in High-Risk High Traffic areas

- working / excavating near active gas lines

- little to no risk assessment done for excavating works

The Queensland Government gave BMD a multi-million dollar contract to upgrade the Mount Crosby Bridge in Brisbane’s west. As usual, safety procedures weren’t adhered to and workers were put at risk. CFMEU organisers found out-of-date safety check lists, powerboards, dodgy fencing and numerous fall from height risks.

BMD had workers drinking out of dirty water tanks on the $298 million taxpayer-funded Centenary Bridge Upgrade in Brisbane. The amenities shed was a disgrace, with no running hot water and untested safety equipment. Bad Mad Dangerous has no respect for its workers and no respect for taxpayers’ money.
